Strong Nonprofits (www.StrongNonprofits.org) from the Wallace Foundation and Fiscal Management Associations provides a wealth of free financial tools and resources of financial management including:

Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation (www.NonprofitReady.org) a library of free online training on everything finance to governance to human resources.

Nonprofit Assistance Fund (nonprofitsassistancefund.org/) provides training, tools and a great resource library on financial health and sustainability.

Fiscal Management Associates (www.fmaonline.net) provides consulting and advisory services around accounting and fiscal management as well as outsource financial management services.

Nonprofit Finance Fund (www.nff.org) provides financial consulting services and lending to nonprofit organization across the country.

National Council of Nonprofits (www.councilofnonprofits.org/) is a national advocate for the nonprofit sector and is leading the effort to have government increase overhead rates.  Great tools, resources and research. #OwnYourOwnCosts

 

GOVERNANCE RESOURCES

BoardSource  (www.BoardSource.org) is the nonprofit sector’s only organization dedicated to improving governance.   The web site has articles, white papers, books, online tools, etc.

Chronicle of Philanthropy (www.philanthropy.com) is the leading publication about trends and current events impacting philanthropy.  A must read for Chief Development Officers.

The Nonprofit Times (www.thenonprofittimes.com) is published 17 times per year and is the premier business publication for nonprofit management.

National Council of Nonprofits (www.councilofnonprofits.org) is a trade association for charitable nonprofits through a network of state associations.  Website rich with resources.

Independent Sector (www.independentsector.org) is the leading coalition of nonprofits, foundations, and corporate giving programs.  Website rich with resources.

Bolder Advocacy (www.bolderadvocacy.org) is an effective resource that charities and foundations can use to advance their mission.  Outstanding new tools around advocacy.

Stand For Your Mission (www.standforyourmission.org) was founded to create positive change through board advocacy.  A new campaign launched late in 2014 by sector leaders.

Alliance For Justice (www.afj.org) is an association of environmental, civil rights, mental health, women’s, children’s and consumer advocacy organizations.

Blue Avocado (www.blueavocado.org) is a free nonprofit online magazine published 7 times per year.  Board Café is a periodic publication concerning governing boards.

The Foundation Center (www.foundationcenter.org) is one of the best resources for information on who is funding what and where.  Based in NYC, with offices around the country they work with hundreds of cooperating libraries across the country to make their database available.

The Stelter Company (www.stelter.com) is a leading provider of researched based marketing strategies and marketing materials promoting planned giving.  Their website contains free webinars and white papers.  Staff should subscribe to free periodic newsletters.

Association of Fundraising Professionals (www.afpnet.org) is for staff with development responsibilities.  Activity based around local chapters.  Website has useful resources.  Many local, regional, and national educational events are held annually and open to nonmembers.

Partnership for Philanthropic Partners (www.pppnet.org) is for professionals working in planned giving, originally named the National Committee on Planned Giving (NCPG) and some chapters still use that name.  Local educational events open to nonmembers.
